It’s prime wedding season, which is good news for retailers like Williams-Sonoma and Bed, Bath & Beyond.  Wedding gift registries are common, but some people are calling for an end to the custom.  Critics of wedding registries say they’re an outdated tradition that makes old-fashioned assumptions about marriages.  In the past, couples tended to get married younger after never having lived together.  But these days, it’s much more likely that couples tying the knot are older and better-established.  They’ve also likely been shacking up, which in many cases removes the need for a bunch of new household appliances.  Also, the wedding registry tradition has arguably sexist overtones, since it suggests women need vacuum cleaners and food processors in order to fulfill their wifely tasks of cleaning and cooking.  Of course, not everyone is anti-gift--registries.  Some guests actually prefer them, since they help ensure their gift will be something the couple a) wants and b) doesn’t already have.  And in recent years, several “alternative” gift registries have come into existence, like those that allow guests to contribute to the couple’s honeymoon or home loan costs, or donate to charity.

Miss Utah Marissa Powell is blaming her epic Q&A fail at the Miss USA pageant on a bad case of nerves.

Sources tell TMZ the beauty queen is "beyond humiliated" after babbling that "we need to see how to create education better" while attempting to answer a question about salary inequality for women.

Now Marissa's telling pals she was so nervous that she spaced out during the question, and never really heard it. But instead of asking the judge to repeat the question, Marissa decided to fake an answer, but that didn't work out so well.

A really cute new trend in wedding ceremonies this year is the "first fight box." During the ceremony, husband and wife fill a wooden box with a bottle of wine, two wine glasses, and sealed handwritten love letters to each other.

They then hammer the box shut with nails and promise to only open it during their "first fight." Cute idea, right? Not only will it stop the argument, but it will bring back all those sweet, loving sentiments from the wedding day and turn the fight into a celebration of their relationship. Hopefully it doesn't get opened until well after the honeymoon! (TresSugar)

A newly-opened restaurant in Alexandria, Virginia claims its 18-and-up policy is a hit.  Several months ago, The Sushi Place announced they would not allow children, since there seemed to be a lack of adults-only dining options in the neighborhood.  It’s hardly the first time the kids-in-restaurants debate has made headlines, and it’s a controversial issue on both sides.  But the owners of The Sushi Place say response has been great so far and they’ve had a packed house ever since their grand opening a few weeks ago.  As they put it, “We by no means hate children or think they don't belong in restaurants. They just don't belong in this particular one.”
