Twenty of the fastest horses in the world will race in the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. Whether you have money on the race or just enjoy watching "the most exciting two minutes in sports," it's nice to know some of the more interesting storylines – and there are a couple of good ones this year.
Two of the favorites, Orb and Goldencents, are some of the horses getting a lot of attention. First, Orb's trainer is Claude "Shug" McGaughey III – a Hall of Fame trainer who's won The Belmont Stakes and so many other big races, but has never captured the roses at the Derby or won the Preakness. With Orb, he's got a great chance to finally win at least one of them this year.
Goldencents is interesting for a couple of reasons. First, Rick Pitino – head coach of NCAA basketball champions Louisville – is a part owner of the horse. And second, its jockey, Kevin Krigger, is trying to become the first African-American jockey to win the Derby since 1902. So now you can make yourself a mint julep, grab a seat on the couch, and enjoy the race. (Bleacher Report)
