It's Peep season, people! Marshmallow Peeps are lining the walls of grocery stores all across the country and will soon be consumed in mass quantities.
These sweet little sugar delights might be delicious – but if you are watching your weight, they are about as empty, calorically, as you can get. One serving of Peeps is five little chicken pieces, each containing 28 calories. This may not seem like a lot, but almost all of these calories come from sugar.
To put it in perspective, consider that a 2012 study showed that a high-intensity kettlebell workout could burn about 20 calories per minute. This means that you’d need to perform a 15-minute high-intensity kettlebell workout in order to burn off the calories from snacking on one pack of Peeps, or 2 servings. If you are going to indulge in a sweet treat, stick with dark chocolate! (Shape)
