"Me" time is a foreign concept to most moms. It's so easy to get wrapped up in the day to day running of a household that taking time for yourself is the very last thing on the to-do list.

It's important to remember, however, that in order to care for your family in the best way possible, you need to be your best self – and that means taking time out for you! Make a commitment to yourself, leave the kids with dad and make time for yourself.

Here are some things every mom should make time to do:

  • Pampering: Whether it's a haircut, manicure, or massage – feeling good about yourself and how you look is important. Just an hour at the salon can make you feel alive and sexy again – so why not do it?!
     
  • Exercise: Go to the gym, take a morning walk or commit to a daily workout DVD. Whatever it is, it's important to be healthy for your family – so don't neglect your body.
     
  • Read: Your mental health is important too! Set a yearly quota of books to read, and stick to it. Plus, if your kids see you reading they are more likely to be readers too!
     
  • Meet a friend for coffee: Friendships often take a backseat when babies arrive, but it's important to maintain these relationships. Catch up, laugh a little and use the time to reconnect with your friends.
     
  • Go on a date: Happy kids are the product of a happy relationship. Making adult time with your favorite guy is often neglected, but super important. (Shine)
