Ten things to Watch For on Wednesday's People's Choice Awards.
- 1. A Sentimental Sandra Bullock. The Oscar-winning actress is set to become the first star to receive the Favorite Humanitarian award. She's being honored for her philanthropic efforts, which include her donations to Warren Easton High School in New Orleans, a school that was heavily damaged during Hurricane Katrina.
- 2. Plenty of Big Bang Theory Type Comedy. The People's Choice Awards will be broadcast on CBS, which is the same network that airs The Big Bang Theory, the most popular comedy on TV. And since that show's star, Kaley Cuaco, is set to host, we expect plenty of Big Bang Theory type laughs.
- 3. Some Seriously Risqué Outfits. The People's Choice Awards offer stars a chance to get creative, and sexy with their outfits. In 2006, Jessica Simpson arrived wearing hot red cowboy boots and a saucy red dress. Would that ever happen at the Oscars?
- 4. Robert Downey Jr. Talking Like Tony Stark. The actor is set to make an appearance at the show, and we fully expect him to showcase the sardonic brand of humor he's perfected as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Casually caustic, and consistently charming, RDJ brightens up any occasion.
- 5. The Random Categories. The People's Choice Awards isn't exactly the most exclusive when it comes to doling out trophies, which explains why it has so many damn categories. With nominations spread out over music, movies, and TV, there's definitely a few laughable categories. Our favorite: the Favorite Face of Heroism award. The nominees for the honor are Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider Man), Jennifer Lawrence (Hunger Games), Anne Hathaway (Dark Knight Rises), Kristen Stewart (Snow White) and Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers).
- 6. Glee vs. The Vampire Diaries. What's more popular: over-the-top musical numbers or vampire sex? In a roundabout way, that question will be answered at the PCAs. Glee and The Vampire Diaries lead the pack in the TV categories with five nominations each, going head to head for the Favorite TV Fan Following award.
- 7. The Singing Show Showdown. Who cares about ratings? It's all about how many glass thingies with clapping hands you have, right? While American Idol, The Voice, and X-Factor routinely tout themselves as the best of the best, the People's Choice Awards leaves the decision up to, well, the people, duh. The three shows will battle it out in the Favorite Competition Show.
- 8. A Battle of Divas. Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys aren't nominated in the same category this year, but that doesn't mean there won't be some friendly competition between the two vocal powerhouses. Both women are set to perform during the PCAs.
- 9. Adam Levine Tripping Over All His Trophies. Since the People's Choice Awards cover the worlds of music, movies, and TV (over an insane 40-plus categories), the more you do, the better your chances. Which is why Adam Levine leads the way with six nominations -- four for Maroon 5, one for The Voice as a show, and one as himself for Favorite Celebrity Judge.
- 10. Pre-taped Hilarity. One of the highlights of last year's show was a hilarious pre-taped skit featuring the cast of Parks and Recreation. Expect producers to leverage the success of that bit by including more pre-recorded comedy during this year's broadcast.
