Even though you may not have it up to your ear, or even on, the mere presence of your cell phone while talking to a stranger makes your conversation less meaningful. An interesting study discovered you're less trusted when your cell phone is within view.
This is a real downside when trying to meet someone new at a party or bar.
"It kind of sends a message that I could stop talking to you at any moment and start another conversation," a researcher told Live Science.
Here's an easy fix -- turn off the phone and hide it. I know, torture, right?
